Major Developments

The Greater London Authority is the regional planning authority in the London Plan which contains starategc planning policies covering all london boroughs. Community maps uses the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation definition of a major development.

Certain limited categories of major development applications are subject also to the Direction of the Mayor of London. In these cases applications will be submitted to the London Borough as with any other application. The London Thames Gateway Development Corporation will consider the application's merits and will then refer the application to the Mayor of London for their direction.

Some major applications, particularly those of a controversial nature, may be "called in" for decision by the Secretary of State. These applications will be formally referred to the Secretary of State by the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation following consideration by the Corporation.
