MCSC Project Partners

The Mapping Change For Sustainable Communities project is led by Dr Muki Haklay at UCL and is a collaborative project between; London 21 Sustainability Network, Planning Aid for London, Community Environment Associates, Bio-Mapping and the London Thames Gateway Forum. It is funded by the UCL UrbanBuzz Programme, a two year evidence-based programme that aims to develop new ways of delivering genuinely sustainable forms of development and community in London and the wider Southeast region.

  • London 21 will host and maintain the Community Maps website, and along with UCL is one of the main contributors to the development of the project.
  • UCL is the project lead, supervising the development of the map and contributing the SMS system called EcoText.
  • Planning Aid for London co-ordinates the dedicated workshops assisting local communities to read plans, understand the planning system, and identify planning issues in their local environments. Planning Aid for London also provide up to date development proposals of interest and on-going planning advice.
  • Bio-mapping involves an innovative device, when attached to the participant, records the wearer's Galvanic Skin Response (GSR). This is a simple indicator of the emotional arousal in conjunction with their geographical location, and the measured response is compiled on a map.
  • London Thames Gateway Forum is to provide the means and support for the community and voluntary sector to participate in the strategic regeneration and governance of Greater London.
